How do I clean my engine bay?
Use your engine bay cleaner step by step, so you keep track of what you've done and don't miss a single corner. Here's how to go about it:
- Let the engine cool down properly first and never work on a warm engine.
- If needed, vacuum up loose dirt and leaves with a car vacuum cleaner.
- Then loosely cover sensitive electronics with a microfibre cloth, and preferably don't use apressure washer, because the high pressure can damage the wiring in your engine bay.
- Apply the cleaner with a pump sprayer and let it soak in: about a minute for light dirt, two to three minutes for heavier grease. When you use an APC, check whether your paint has a clear coat. If it doesn't and you use too much all-purpose cleaner, it can slightly affect the paint.
- Working with an APC or another harsh cleaner? Wear gloves to protect your hands.
- Work the dirt loose withdetailing brushes with stiff bristles, because soft bristles leave dirt behind in the corners.
- Wipe everything down with a damp, preferably oldermicrofibre cloth, and don't use kitchen roll or paper, because they leave tiny scratches.

Which products do I need for a clean engine bay?
You don't need a cupboard full of gear for a clean engine bay. Anall-purpose cleaner (APC) works fine as a base, but you can also go for a dedicated engine bay cleaner that targets grease and oil, such as theAutoglym engine cleaner.
Apply the product with a pump sprayer or a simple spray bottle. To reach every corner of your engine bay, a set of detailing brushes with stiff bristles is a must.
Want an easy way to remove loose dirt from the engine bay? Then a car vacuum cleaner comes in handy too. Because an APC can affect paint without a clear coat, we recommend starting with a weaker dilution. Are there still small marks left after cleaning? Then grab a non-abrasivepolish. Keep in mind that you can only use it on painted parts. So don't use polish on an unpainted plastic engine cover.
