Drying towels and shammies
What are the benefits of a car drying towel?
A drying towel for cars does more than just remove water. You'll avoid streaks, spots and limescale marks that appear when you let your car air dry. Microfiber towels are incredibly soft and absorb loads of water, meaning you can dry large surfaces with a relatively small towel. A car drying towel gives you control: you decide how and where to dry, and you're finished before the sun ruins your work. Plus, you can use the same towel for years because they're machine washable. What types are available?
There are three types of car drying towels:
- Waffle weave towels
- Plush towels
- Twisted loop towels
Waffle weave towels have a textured pattern that looks like a waffle. This pattern captures water and dirt in the grooves, so you barely touch the paint itself. Plush towels are soft with short, dense fibers that are perfect for streak-free results on glass and chrome. They're compact and easy to wring out. Twisted loop towels have longer, twisted fibers that hold even more water. This style is ideal for large surfaces like SUVs or vans, because you can dry extensive areas in one go without constantly wringing out the towel. Curious about the best drying towel? We often hear people still use a chamois to dry their car. However, we advise against this. Using a chamois creates too much friction on the paint, which can lead to fine scratches and swirls. Dirt also builds up in a chamois and they're not washable. Microfiber drying towels glide much more smoothly across the surface and are therefore safer for your car. Want to dry completely contact-free? Combine your drying towel with a dryer blower for hard-to-reach spots like mirror housings, the grille or wheels.
How do you use a drying towel on your car?
Use your car drying towel right after washing, while the surface is still wet. Lay the towel flat on the paint and pull it gently toward you. Let the fibers absorb the water rather than rubbing. This prevents scratches and gets the job done faster. Start at the top with the roof and work downward. This way you won't push dirt from above onto clean sections. Make sure no small stones or sand grains get caught in the towel. You might not feel them, but they can still cause damage. After use, let it air dry. Wash it regularly in the machine without fabric softener, and it'll keep absorbing well and last for years.
